Mechanic of the Year
Company: Procycle (York, UK)
Nominee: Joshua Foster
Supporting Statement:
I started Procycle because I wanted to build the sort of workshop I always felt the bike industry needed more of: technically strong, honest, approachable, and built on integrity, with a focus on doing the job properly rather than simply getting bikes in and out of the door.
Now approaching its second anniversary, Procycle has grown from a mobile repair service into a trusted appointment-based workshop, supporting riders across road, gravel, cyclocross and performance cycling. My focus has been on clear advice, careful mechanical work and service that feels professional without being intimidating. I want riders to understand what has been done to their bike, why it matters, and what they should prioritise next.
Winning Bikebook Mechanic of the Month was a huge milestone, but more importantly it reflected the standards I try to bring to every job: proper assessment, transparent pricing, clear communication and a genuine duty of care. Whether it is a premium service, custom wheel build, warranty assessment, or helping a rider understand a safety issue, I approach each bike with the same level of responsibility.
Alongside the workshop, I have worked to contribute more widely to the cycling community. This has included running a mechanic’s day with a local cycling club, giving riders practical maintenance advice and helping them feel more confident looking after their bikes. I have also volunteered my time at local races, supporting the events and riders that keep grassroots cycling going.
I also host The-Road-Ahead-podcast, speaking with people across the bike industry and cycling community. Ultimately, my aim is to keep people in cycling, not lose them to poor maintenance, badly working bikes or avoidable frustration. For me, Mechanic of the Year would recognise the workshop I am trying to build: technically capable, customer-focused, community-minded and genuinely committed to making cycling better.
